Pulled the blower motor resistor and…….


WHERES THE REST OF IT?
I searched all through that box in the resistor slot, filter slot, pulled the motor. I can’t find the other part of the resister circuit board

The blower motor was basically sitting in a bowl of water and rusted solid. Finally broke it free but the bearings are shot and all crunchy. Time for a new blower motor too.




Date code on blower and resistor both from early 2000 so both were original which I’m not surprised, I never changed either and I know my dad never did either.

Started cleaning the 20years of dirt off the hood.


Cleaned up pretty well from a distance


New headlight and marker light housings tomorrow. I’ll probably finish cleaning the dirt off tomorrow and install a Noco battery tender.

I looked back and did not see but I cannot see where you said what kind of HVAC system you have. Is it the automatic system or the manual controls? The manual controls will have the blue and red face. It looks like you have the tab mount blower that does not attach with screws. Instead it mounts like a bayonet mount camera lens. Insert and twist and lock in the tab. That GM number at RA is 1581099

The resistor crossover number does not go to a GM part at RA but does go to a Standard Parts number RU371.

RPO codes C60 or C68?

Give some info so we can help.

It’s manual controls, blue/red knobs. Yes it’s the bayonet tab mount motor.
RPO C60.

GM Genuine would be first option.

Although on my 06 Suburban I installed the Four Seasons brand resistor and motor last year. Prior to that I had bought a off-brand resistor from Amazon because it advertised a "no splice" connection, but it made a super weird noise.

The Four Seasons has been working well. Made in the USA (Lewisville, TX on on the resistor IIRC?). I did have to splice it in, but really no big deal.

Man that picture makes that thing look so cheap compared to the valeo I pulled out. So much more robust than what they’re showing as the new Gm original. Bummer.

Upgrades and design changes. I can say that in 40+ years in shops and now in retirement, have never had a bad new GM part. I know it can happen but I have never experienced it.

Hopefully, I know I would, you took your truck info and checked application like I did and verified what it said about the RPO code and then ordered. On my truck or anything I work on and have in front of me, I check and double check. Your truck is not here, but with supplied info, I am at least 90% sure.

Well got a thin bed of clear urethane on to seal up the top seal. I’ll check this afternoon to make sure it keeps the water out.

Yesterday I found a can of wd-40 specialist rust release. I decided to soak the blower motor with this stuff for a bit and then spin it by hand for probably 10–5 minutes. It continued to get better to where it was pretty smooth when spinning it. I then cleaned it up with some electric motor cleaner. After it was dry I connected it to a battery and it worked! It smoked lightly at first but then cleared up and ran full speed. I did that a number of times and eventually let it run for 5 minutes or so. Decided to mount it back in the hvac box with a new Gm oe resistor (22807122) and it worked on all speeds but #5 Hmmm. Let it run on 4 for a while and put an amp clamp on it. The motor in the box pulls right around 13 amps. Not sure if that’s normal or not.

Sounds like I might need to check a fuse or two to figure out the #5 speed issue. That would be a bummer if the new resistor was bad. I’m tempted to just run this motor as it runs great now and smooth and quiet.

Got new headlight and marker housings cerakoted and installed.

Planning to finish putting interior pieces back together today then gotta go over my dzlburb before our next trip.

I believe I read somewhere that there is a 40 amp fuse in the fuse box under the hood that is the fuse for the #5 speed on the blower.

You can remove the fuse and jump across the terminals and see if the #5 speed works and also test the fuse..

Yes, the blower motor resistor has a wire directly to the large 40A fuse on the fuseblock, or at least on my 06 it does. I accidentally blew my fuse when I was splicing in my resistor. The wire is not switched, so it always has power...

I don't remember how my 99 differs, if at all?

I got that info from a thread over on the Tahoe/Yukon Forum for 2000 to 2006 trucks. A member called @jamison2021 supplied it.
