Pulled off tie rods from the knuckles tonight and the knuckles turn with some resistance but not what I would think is excessive. Started the truck and turned the wheel without the knuckles connected and there’s definitely still heaviness when turning but noticeably less then when it’s all connected. I wonder if the idler/pitman or idler bracket is binding/stiff. To be honest the more I drive it starts to feel less “heavy”. At this point there’s no slop anywhere and generally the steering feels good. I think I’m going to put some more miles on it and see if it loosens up a bit. It’s definitely not as heavy and sloppy as it was before I changed the box and pump. That was a bit of a handle at times.

I think that about does it for suspension, driveline, steering and brakes for now. Now I need to work a bit on the interior cleaning and get those speakers changed out. I’ll see how much time I get over the next week with the rain coming in.
So, are you going to at least recheck where the alignment settings are?

Probably not right now. Only have 350miles on it since alignment. The tires on the truck now are 8 years old even though they only have about 10k miles. I’ll likely be replacing them this year. Probably check alignment then.

I noticed recently while driving in the rain the windows fog up pretty easily. I haven’t driven a vehicle in the rain in recent years that didn’t have a/c to help dry the air and clear the windows. Might be time to fix up the a/c soon. Everything was functional but the service ports leaked. So I’ll need to change them and the drier. While it’s apart I’ll change some orings and’s check the produce tube then vacuum it down and charge it up. Should be pretty simple.

Here's my quote from another post on doing the service ports on my '06 (easy):

"Replacing the A/C service ports on my truck was a snap, even though I didn't have the oddball socket for the high side, I was able to remove it with an adjustable wrench. It's not super tight or anything, being an aluminum fitting in a thin aluminum tube. I did need to run down to the parts house and get a valve core tool for the low side as a regular tire tool didn't have enough reach. "Xtra Seal" brand # 15-3174 you can see on my core support with the black/orange handle got it done for under $7. The service port kit I used was Four Seasons 26775 which I paid a little extra from amzn to get it here quick, still less than $15. I used some Nylog blue sealant on the threads and o-rings as well."

I used to do sooooo much a/c work in KC, Mo. before I moved to Eugene, Or. in 1995. Hot and humid in KC and a/c work was all over. I do not even have a set of gauges here in Oregon. There is some a/c work, but not enough to make it cost effective for a vacuum pump and gauges and some of the special tools needed.

If anyone has input on decent aftermarket blower motors I'm all ears. Having trouble locating GM genuine.
I changed mine out today along with the resister. I’ve been smelling a slight burning smell when running the fan on high. Turned out to be the wires at the resister so I just changed them both. I couldn’t located a AC Delco one so I found this one on Amazon. It’s quieter than the one I had and blows harder. It’s a LCWRGS brand.

So the nice weather we’re having means time to do some more work outside. However had to do some much needed yard work on Saturday to prep the garden.

Yesterday got the seats out…

Found 25 years of yuck under there. It was a contractors work truck for 20 years of that. Got it vacuumed up as best I could then pulled the carpet and padding.

Did some more vacuuming and deferred to the Italian detailing tool (leaf blower)

Got to test fit the new center seat/console from a 2010 Silverado.

Soaked the carpet with a 50/50 mix of Super Clean and water. Scrubbed a few bad stains and let it soak in. Then hit it with the pressure washer for well over an hour and got all the dirty water and super clean rinsed out of the carpet. Physically the carpet was in excellent shape. No excessive wear or holes or anything. Just filthy and stunk.

Let it dry overnight and the +80F temps today dried it out nicely…

I’m happy with the results. Still waiting for the carpet padding to dry.

Hoping to get it all back together tomorrow then on to finally changing speakers.

Good weather dried everything out nicely. Not as many pics today was busy getting it back together before dinner engagement.

Got the carpet padding back in as well as a bit of extra padding along the back wall And under the front floor pan and trans tunnel. Not that it needed it but I had extra from some other projects so why not. Got the padding, air ducts and carpet back in place.

Got the new console back in place. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to wire in the 12v aux plug for the lower storage area. I’ll deal with that later.

Got the seats back in along with the trim.
1742974187986.jpeg

Oh finally got the rear seat cover installed. It was easier with the seat removed. So I was waiting for this project.

Front looks good with new console and cleaned carpet. Floor mats still in good shape but need a good cleaning.

Cooler weather on the horizon with possibility of rain. Maybe I’ll start with one door panel at a time and work on those speakers.

Good work, you saved over $200 by cleaning that carpet. I was unaware that GMT900 seats fit in our 800s.. good to know for my 2000 Silvy down the road!

EDIT: I re-read it and it's only the GMT900 jump seat lol... bummer
Thanks. Yeah and most after market carpet probably isn’t as good of quality either.

Technically the seats would bolt up too but the issue is the seatbelts are not in the seats on the 900. So you’d have to get creative.

If they looked insanely better than our stock ones I could see it being worth it to mount the seatbelt onto the B pillar, maybe escalade seats.

I got ACC carpet for mine and it's pretty good, mine is a WT though so it didn't have carpet from the factory. Looks like yours has more padding as well.

I swapped a jump seat with the cubby and 2 cupholders from a GMT900 into my 06 Suburban. I believe even the k2xx jump seats are interchangeable into our trucks; I like those because there more more compartments. I didn't know that when I swapped mine, else I would have looked for one of those.

I've read our GMT800 seats are more comfortable than GMT900 or K2xx seats. IDK, I all I have is GMT800s.

At the Tahoe/Yukon Forum, same owners as here, the GMT800 seats are known as the most comfortable across the whole forum.

The center k2xx seats will “fit” but are not bolt in replacements like the gmt900. You’ll have to either cut the brackets from an 800/900 series or make your own to fit.

Don’t know these guys or anything about them other than found this on a google search

Looks interesting.
Cool. Thanks for sharing.

My brother bought this 90 C1500 RCSB a while back and the previous owner actually had some Odessey minivan seats in it, LOL. My brother is on the "large" side, he found himself a set of NBS seats. We cut off the jumpseat little legs and I welded some steel plate, at the right angle. I don't remember much, he just basically said, "weld here, and here, etc " and was burning electrons . Actually, I think just the jumpseat required mods. The actual seats just bolted to the cab, I think?

The factory cerpet in this truck is heavy. It’s got a full rubber mass backing on it. Dry, the carpet alone probably weighs nearly 50-60lbs!
I've bought ACC carpet before and it was pretty good. They have the option for the mass backing for a few bucks more. Recommended.. I can't imagine getting the carpet without it.
